Bellair

Bellair Health Centre is a potential new development in Penzance, which will house a range of existing GP and community health services. The scheme is being developed under the LIFT arrangements by Community 1st Cornwall for Cornwall Primary Care Trust.

Arts for Health Cornwall were commissioned to integrate the arts into the fabric of the building and to enhance the centre's environment.

Our involvement will hopefully contribute to:
• An innovative and high quality environment for the delivery of health care
• High quality visual impact
• Local community ownership and accessibility
• A health promoting environment
• Increased satisfaction with service provision

Penzance is a particularly vibrant creative and cultural community and we wanted to find ways of reflecting that vibrancy in the planning and design of the Health Centre, with the aim of making a positive contribution to the health and well-being of the whole community.

The Strategy was developed by lead artists Lucy Willow and Emma Wilson. They held a series of drop-in community events and Creative community days to come up with ideas and inspiration for how the arts could be involved in the building design.  This culminated in a 'Bellair Display Day' on January 17th 2007, which provided an opportunity for the staff at the various Penzance practices to see the Artworks created from the various consultation sessions.
