'No One Should be Homeless at Christmas' - A Collaborative project with St Petroc's Society

St. Petroc’s Society and Arts for Health Cornwall commissioned freelance photographer Brian Kennedy to work in the weeks leading up to and including Christmas Day and Boxing Day, creating images which make visible the experiences of people who are homeless at this time.

The resulting exhibition of 40 photographs, some of which were created by homeless people and staff at St. Petroc’s Society, are currently touring exhibition venues in Cornwall (for information on the exhibition's current whereabouts then plase contact our office on 01872 274592) . The exhibition and accompanying catalogue highlight the work of St. Petroc’s Society which opened its doors to homeless people at the Breadline café in Penzance on Christmas Day and Boxing Day providing Christmas lunch for 103 people. It aims to raise awareness of the problem of homelessness in our society and to stimulate debate on its causes and effects and will be on tour throughout Cornwall and beyond during 2008.

Brian Kennedy, freelance photographer said ‘Working on this project was an eye-opening experience. Spending time with people who are homeless, especially on Christmas Day at Breadline, helped me to realise that there is no such thing as the stereotypical homeless person and learn more about how people can become homeless and what that can mean for them’.

The fully illustrated exhibition catalogue, in a presentation pack, gives more information and reflections on homelessness and is available from Arts for Health Cornwall for £10 which will go to St. Petroc’s Society to help them continue their work.
