In Spring 2006, we were approached by Longreach Mental Health Unit in Redruth who were keen to improve the visual and accoustic aesthetics of the ward. AFHC then commissioned artist Rosie Hadden to improve the healing environment at the unit and to also involve the patients and staff in the process of creating a textile based series of wall hangings, that would help to both soften the accoustics of the building and create an uplifting, beautiful focus for the space.
Rosie worked closely with the patients and staff at the unit, in both the design of the piece and creating the finished textile pieces, which are stunning and have become an integral part of the ward...
Sometimes we dive too deep... Sometimes we fly too high.... and then we walk.
Following the success of this project, Longreach House were keen to integrate the arts into other aspects of the building. The ward's Multi Faith room was subsequently transformed with the help of artist Dena Martin and silk blind maker Yvonne Carter. The garden fences are also currently being re-designed and cast from tin and copper by local artists Suzy Sharpe and Paul Hoskin.
