Living Well with Dementia is a 2 year project to support residential homes in West Cornwall to deliver person centered care and ensure that their clients with dementia lead meaningful lives. The project is focusing on staff development and leadership and is being delivered by The Learning, Training and Support Unit of Adult Care and Support.

AFHC were delighted to be invited to join the team, in order to bring the concepts of creativity and innovation to the training. The aim is both to support the change process of the personal development aspects of the programme and to equip staff with skills, confidence and experiences in creative activities and environments so that they can bring creativity into their job roles and into the lives of those that they care for.

Jenny ran aspects of the November training day that explored  the impact of the environment on creativity . Through a cafe style ‘speed dating’ practical session the participants explored different ways of creating conversations and really get to know their clients, discussions followed on how to gather this information, record, share and use this knowledge in order to improve clients days, using ‘At a Glance ‘ Care records.

This was followed by a practical felt making session were the concepts of sensory stimulation and meaningful activities were discussed.

The next training day is in January and will be looking at evaluation
