In the latest issue of Animated Magazine, dance practitioners Caroline Schanche and Jayne Devlin share their experience of using dance in stroke rehabilitation.
Arts for Health Cornwall’s Arts for Stroke Rehabilitation Project on the Lanyon Ward of Redruth and Camborne Community Hospital concluded earlier in the year. In their article Moments of Breath and Hand Jive Jayne and Caroline reflect upon the evolution and impact of their practice.
“We called this article ‘Moments of breath and hand jive’ because it brought to mind something of the scope of our work. Sometimes the dance was to sit and breathe with a patient and breathe was the sound score. Sometimes the dance was a hand jive, the music was Elvis and the group was ‘rocking’. Dance has a seemingly infinite reach and it all begins at home in our bodies.” (Jayne and Caroline).
