Creativity in Care Settings –
‘A practical course in delivering creative activity sessions in health care environments’
Working in partnership with Truro College, Arts for Health Cornwall and IOS have developed and are delivering a course for health care workers and carers that will enable them to develop and support creativity within their care settings.
Although the course is a stand alone, it will be certificated and therefore can count towards NVQ levels two, three and four.
The course is being designed and delivered by the two experienced art practitioners Caroline Schanche and Noel Perkins.
It is divided into three sections, each of which can be assessed independently or as one course.
Stage 1.Introductory Session – Underpinning Knowledge
This is a single day attendance for everyone working in a care setting that will allow the participants to develop a basic understanding regarding the importance of creativity and its role in maintaining health and well being.
Stage 2. Delivering Creativity
This is a series of 5 sessions aimed to deepen the understanding of creativity whilst learning the skills and developing the confidence to run creativity sessions and, where applicable, be assessed for a NVQ level 2 unit in care. The sessions consist of:-
Session 1: Developing practical skills – visual art
Session 2: Developing practical skills – movement and word games
Session 3: Personal creative project
Session 4: Facilitation skills
Session 5: Running your own creativity session
Stage 3. Supporting and Encouraging Creativity in the workplace
This is a single session that is aimed at those having completed stages 1 and 2 and for managers of care settings, and can contribute to NVQ level 4.
The course aims to encourage learning through experience and as such will be as practically based as possible, with a creativity workbook accompanying the course.
The first course starts on September 4th in Camborne Community Centre, the second course starts on 5th September at Bodmin Psychotherapy and Counselling Centre.
They both run over a three month period, with one full day of study each fortnight.
The first two course are being subsidised and hence cost £150 (instead of the usual £300).
