Perranporth Surgery

Lollie Brewer is the artist in residence for Perranporth Surgery, she has introduced a number of creative arts groups and projects, along with re-invigorating the surgery's waiting room area.

This was followed in September 2007 with 'Life's a Beach'; a creative arts group for patients who were feeling lonely, isolated or depressed.  The group created a series of 12 painted panels that make up a view of Perranporth bay for the surgery's waiting room and started to meet up 3 times a week to work together and socialise (a great measure of the group's success!)

In November 2007, a walking group was started for any patients of the surgery keen to improve their fitness and agility.  The group was an instant hit, and quickly grew to well over 100 members.  The fortnightly walks will continue to take place throughout the winter season, and are now run by a member of the local community.

Other projects that have been taking place include an embroidery and knitting group called 'Knitting the Sea', a 3D sculpture art session run by an Art therapist, a movement and voice based series of workshops to help improve women's body image (aimed particularly at those who have undergone body changing surgery), a creative writing group and gardening group for people with learning disabilities.
